Welding 12 Hot Stamp Boron Steel

WSI capacitor discharge welders have proven results projection welding fasteners to hot stamp boron steels. Testing our capabilities in March 2022 at our resistance welding laboratory in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, a team of research engineers successfully welded 6mm weld nuts to 12 gauge hot stamp boron steel using a current of 400 / 53 kA. The resulting pushout test recorded 2389 lbs.

What is hot stamp boron steel?

Boron steel refers to steel alloyed with boron, usually, in sub 1% quantities – boron in steel greatly increases the hardenability of steel. Hot-stamp boron steels are lightweight and can offer tensile strengths of 1,500 MPa, making them desirable for use by automobile manufacturers striving for better gas mileage while maintaining 5-star crash test ratings.
