Hot Stamping Experience and Tech Tour
MetalForming magazine is proud to deliver this one-of-a-kind event designed to provide a unique opportunity to dive deeply into the ever expanding world of hot stamping. Gaining popularity among automotive OEMs and Tier suppliers, as well as other industries, hot stamping is becoming a go-to process for enabling the production of lighter and safer vehicles.
Along with presentations updating attendees on the latest technology developments related to hot stamping, Urgent Design & Manufacturing representatives will provide guided tours of their 165,000-sq.-ft. facility, which features a robot-tended two-press hot-stamping cell, as well as support processes and equipment including five-axis laser-cutting machines and robotic resistance-welding cells.
Projection Welding of Fasteners to Hot Stamped Boron Steel.
Allen M. Agin, Midwest Regional Sales Manager will be discussing Welding Fasteners to Hot Stamped Coated Steels Projection welding of fasteners is widely used in automotive component assembly. Hot stamped high-boron AlSi coated steels is becoming more prevalent in the attempt to create components with increased tensile strength, which helps manufacturers meet regulatory requirements while maintaining 5-Star Safety Ratings.
This presentation will review the manufacturing issues encountered when projection welding fasteners onto hot stamped/press hardened, AlSi-coated components, and examines the impact of using contact resistance, short weld times and high weld forces coupled with fast mechanical response. Welding process comparisons also will be addressed.
Capacitor Discharge (CD) welders for the projection welding of fasteners to hot stamped boron and other hardened materials and alloys, including press-hardened steels, extremely-hard aluminum, stainless steel alloys and the latest Gen III materials.
