WSI Introduces Our Latest Generation 12,000 Joule Capacitive Discharge (CD) Welder

Ideal for projection welding fasteners, with standard or ring type projections, to Hot Stamped Aluminum Silicate (AlSi) coated materials, Galvanized and other coated materials

Warrensville Heights, Ohio – October 30, 2020 — Weld Systems  Integrators, Inc (WSI) a major US manufacturer of resistance welding equipment, is pleased to announce the roll out of our next generation 12,000 Joule (12kJ) Capacitive Discharge (CD) Welder series. These welders are ideal for projection welding fasteners, with standard or ring type projections, to Hot Stamped Aluminum Silicate (AlSi) coated materials, Galvanized and other coated materials.

WSI designs, engineers, and manufactures all CD welders in the United States.  WSI uses a domestically-sourced mated transformer and power supply, engineered specifically to work together for superior performance. This practice eliminates delays in parts and repairs, enhancing serviceability and maximizing uptime.

WSI’s integrated welder design includes our Exclusive Fast Follow-Up Head, and an active displacement system, for graphing displacement (specific distance of the weld projections collapse vs. weld time) for every weld.  An inline force transducer measuring actual weld force in real time is also installed.  Integrating these features is essential for maintaining the reliable, consistent results required by rigid OEM specifications.

The new CD Welder is designed with a minimum 18″ throat depth allowing more space for robotic end effectors, fastener feeders, and other automation.  Also designed into this series are standard “T” slot platens ideal for universal tooling concepts ranging from basic to dedicated parts fixtures.

This new series offers single head welders and multiple head welders that can all be configured to use a single power supply.  Multiple head welders utilizing this configuration allows for a different application to be welded on each head, reducing capital investment and floor space.  Multiple head welders may also be configured with several power supplies for high speed applications.

WSI has led the industry in attaching fasteners to Hot Stamped AlSi coated stampings since 2007.  This industry expertise has been recognized by major automotive OEMs, Tier 1 & 2 Suppliers, and large stamping companies.  WSI has installed the next generation 12kJ CD Welder in its laboratory, alongside MFDC (Standard & FRT) and AC welders for customer trial and part development.
